Specifications and pinouts of the Wdeck DIY. To build one, follow the build guide.

Specifications

  • Screen3.5" SPI TFT or IPS with resistive touch, 480 × 320 (ILI9488)
  • Keys15 per page (5 × 3), 85 × 85 px each; unlimited pages and folders
  • ControllerESP32-WROOM-32 DevKit V1 (30 pins); ESP32-S3 DevKit also supported
  • ConnectionUSB serial to the Windows app; one cable for power and data
  • Picture storageabout 1.9 MB of flash on the ESP32 for key pictures and animations
  • Feedbackthe touched key lights up at once, before the computer reacts
  • Casethree printed parts, five M3×14 countersunk screws, four rubber feet

Displays

The case is made for the 3.5" ILI9488 module. The firmware also runs on these SPI touch displays. Pick the controller in the web flasher or the app. IPS panels need the IPS variant, otherwise colours look inverted.

ESP32 DevKit pins

MOSI and SCK go to both the screen and its touch controller. Power the display from 3V3. The full diagram with a checklist is in the build guide.

ESP32-S3 pins

The ESP32-S3 has no GPIO 23 or 32, so it uses the board's own SPI pins. Build the firmware for it in the app (Install firmware → ESP32-S3); the web flasher covers the classic ESP32 only.

Power and USB

  • The deck is powered and connected by one USB cable from the computer. It must be a data cable.
  • Boards with a CP210x or CH340 USB chip need their Windows driver if no COM port appears.
  • The ESP32 pins are 3.3 V only; never feed the display logic from 5 V.
  • The backlight is dimmed with PWM; set the brightness in the app.

Case and printing

  • Parts: front bezel, rear shell and desk stand, STL files on Printables ↗.
  • Settings: PETG, 0.2 mm layers, 20 % gyroid infill, supports on the build plate only; about 6 hours.
  • Assembly: the ESP32 is glued into the shell with its USB port at the opening; four screws close the case, the fifth holds it on the stand.
